120 Years of Ngala

1890 House of Mercy - a refuge for fallen women.
1894 

Moved to a larger house in Aberdeen St, Perth.

House of Mercy Association Registered.

1897 House purchased in Lake St, Perth for Â£375.
1901 Moved to Lincoln St, Highgate Hill - cost of house Â£1,901.
1916 Change name to "Alexandra Home for Women".
1949 First Mothercraft Training Centre established in WA at Ngala.
1950

Change name to "Alexandra Home for Mothers and Babies and Mothercraft Training School.

1956 Change name to Ngal-a Mothercraft Home and Training Centre Inc.
1959 Move to Corner George St and Jarrah Rd, Kensington.
1960

Opening of Ngala opportunity shop on Albany Hwy, Victoria Park called 'Bargain Bazaar'.

1961 First infant health course began.
1966 Ngala Hall Opens.
1970 South Wing added to Ngala building.
1973 Ngala Child Care Centre opened.
1988

Submission to Western Australian Government for new suit of family services accepted.

1989

New logo depicting caring and nurturing adopted.

Renamed Ngala Family Resource Centre

Holistic approach to provide early parenting support to families.

1990 Ngala's first regional base opened in Rockingham.
1995 New purpose built modern facility opened on 31st March.
1998

Family Services Review - services to be provided in 3 program areas.

Quality Improvement Committee launched.

1999 Introduction of 'Hey Dad WA' program.
2005 ISO 9001:2000 Certification by the Institute for Healthy Communities Australia (IHCA).
2006 Integration of services under a 'One Ngala' banner.
2007 Construction work commences on Alexandra Village on the old Ngala site.
2008

June - Ngala Inc. ceases operation.

July - Ngala commences operation under new structure, split into 3 entities:

Ngala Children's Services (operating the Child Care services)

Ngala Community Services (operating Education Services & Community Programs)

Ngala Family Services (operating the Private Hospital including Day Stay & Overnight stay services)

The Roll of Honour is unveiled celebrating staff with 10 years or service of more to Ngala.

2009 Introduction of 2 Indigenous programs in Midland and Banksia Grove.
2010

Ngala's 120th year of operations

The Western Ausyralian Government raises a motion in Parliament to make a formal apology for past adoptions practices. Ngala issues a statement of support for this apology.
