Activities in 2012

Interest generated in Pilbara Families Building Pilbara Communities activities in both Hedland and Newman during the month of September brought Ngala into contact with 32 organisations, 23 of which went on to either partner or participate in the project. Based on partners’ feedback, planning, hosting, promoting and recruiting Ngala was able to offer a wide range of supporting activities for families and those working with them.

Over the course of eight days, Ngala offered 12 workshops on sleep, 6 on behaviour, 8 on building brains, 3 on toileting, 2 on nutrition, 3 on fathering and 6 helpline activities to 248 parents. Of these workshops, 11 included professional training for 100 staff working with families. Parent feed back indicated the activities provided useful knowledge, increased confidence and links to other parents and organisations. Similarly Professionals working with families reported that the practical knowledge provided would help in their work with families.

Pilbara Families Building Pilbara Communities is offered to parents, community groups, employer groups and services working with families in Newman and Port Hedland. Through their Community Grants Program, BHP Billiton is proud to support the Ngala’s delivery of Pilbara Families Building Pilbara Communities.
