An excellent gift idea for new parents!

Information about Ngala's in-home Parenting Plus serviceBecoming a parent does not come with an instruction manual. Parenting is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have but it can come with some challenges.  Ngala's family services are here to help. Now with the new Parenting Plus In-Home Service we can come to you - when you need it and in the convenience of your own home.

These are some of the things Parenting Plus can help with to bring some clarity and direction for families to work towards a manageable routine.

Adjusting to your new baby in the home

What is my baby trying to tell me? What does the crying mean? Is she/he in pain, hungry or uncomfortable? How often do I breast feed? How much does my baby need? How much sleep does she need? How do I get a manageable routine? How do I fit a baby into the care of a toddler as well?

Sleep and Settling

When children wake up often in the night and take a lot of work to settle in the day as well, it can take its toll on parents’ health and emotion. Lack of sleep can also cause friction in couple relationship.

Parenting Plus gives you evidence-based information to help you understand how much sleep your child needs and works with you to find a gentle strategy to help your child to settle herself with less parental efforts.

Breast Feeding

Many parents are been discharged from hospital two to 3 days after delivery. As the milk has not come in yet, some parents do not know what to expect when they are at home. Some people experience pain and difficulties as they have engorgement and the baby has difficulties latching onto to feed. Many parents grapple with doubts of whether the baby has enough milk. How do I know if my baby is crying because she is hungry or she is tired or she needs her nappy changed? How often then do I feed? What does demand feeding mean?

Parenting Plus will assess by observing a feed and give you relevant information and assist you towards a painless breastfeeding experience by correct attachment and positioning. Your questions will be answered with the most up-to-date information from current research.

Introducing New Foods

Most families have the older generation giving them advice on when to introduce solids or new foods. Many people have different ideas, it can be confusing sometimes. When is the right time, what foods do I give? What are the signs of readiness for other foods other than milk? Parenting Plus can assist by giving you current evidence-based information as to when the most suitable time to introduce solids and what food is appropriate according to the child’s age.

Play and Development

Many adults do not know what the appropriate play is for young children. Children learn problem-solving, relationships, sharing, and positive interactions through play. What is my part in that process? How do I play with my infant? What toys are appropriate? Am I too rough?

Parenting Plus comes with the most current Early Brain Development Research information to assist you with your involvement in your children’s development through play.

Toddler Behaviour

The transition from baby to toddlerhood can be challenging for some families.  What has happened to my baby? Suddenly, my child is really disagreeable and will not do what parents ask. They can also throw tantrums and give out the loudest scream. Some even hit, bite and throw objects! Although this is a normal stage of development, it can be challenging for parents.

Parenting Plus will help you to understand what is going on and to work with you to help your toddler to learn to relate with you and others in a more social way. Strategies will be discussed and tailored according to your family values and child’s age and ability.
