Parenting Workshops

Ngala offer several two-hour parenting workshopsNgala provides several two hour education workshops for parents, grandparents and carers of children 0 to 6 years. Ngala particularly encourages fathers and mothers to attend groups together where possible or to bring along a significant support person who also cares for your child/ren on a regular basis.

Parents Working Away - For parents who work away from home and their partners. Come and explore the issues that families find challenging when a parent works away. We will discuss practical ideas to help your family make the most of time together and remain connected during times apart. More about Parents Working Away.

Families Moving for Work - For fathers, mothers and families of children of all ages. Are you moving away from family and friends or thinking of doing so in the future? How will you and your children manage this change? This workshop will explore the issues and look at how best to cope with this experience.  More about Families Moving for Work.

Antenatal (pregnancy)
 image Building Brains
For parents of children newborn to 3 years of age. 2 hour workshop .Participants come to gain knowledge, learn from others and share their experiences. Research shows that security, self esteem and motivation are primed in the first three years of your child�s life. This crucial stage in your child�s development builds a solid platform for the challenges that they will face in later life. Throughout this workshop you will be able to reflect and gain knowledge by immersing yourself in your child�s world as their brain is making millions of new connections every day. Did you know that your child�s brain is the only organ that is still growing after birth and is open to the infinite scope of human possibilities? Participants will identify their role as a vehicle of their child�s early learning. Babies under 7months welcome to attend.
 image Successful Toileting 3.5 years plus
For parents of children 3.5 to 5 years of age. 2.5 hour workshop. Parents come to gain knowledge, learn from other parents and share their experiences. This workshop explores toileting in the older child who also has had a few months of practicing the skill of toileting and has not yet the mastered the skill or perhaps has even regressed with their progress so far. This workshop explores developmental aspects related to toileting and some common challenges from both your child’s perspective and the parent’s perspective. Discussion is based around what may get in the way and explores how to move forward to achieve successful toileting.

For parents of children 7 months to 2 years of age. 2 hour workshop. Parents come to gain knowledge, learn from other parents and share their experiences. This workshop explores children’s sleep patterns and rhythms which evolve as their brain continues to make sense of their world. Participants will explore and help identify both the parents and child’s role in relation to sleep and nutritional requirements for this age group.

For fathers of children newborn to 6 years of age. 2.5 hour workshop. Want to get some tips about being a Dad? Want to hear from other Dads about how they do things? Ngala’s Skilled Dads workshop is about helping Dads build strong connections with their kids from a very early age. Skilled Dad’s workshops are held at busy bloke friendly times and led by a Hey Dad WA worker and a Child Health Nurse. The workshop is useful to dads who live full time with their children and those dads who live apart from their kids (and everything in between).

For parents and families of children of all ages. 2 hour workshop. Are you moving away from family and friends or thinking of doing so in the future? How will you and your children manage this change? This workshop will explore the issues and look at how best to cope with this experience.

For parents and families of children of all ages. 2 hour workshop. Come and explore the issues that families find challenging when a parent works away. Strategies are discussed to promote a positive experience for both the child and family.

This workshop explores how your child’s developing senses shape their feelings and attitudes to the process of eating, and how you as parents contribute as role models in providing the appropriate opportunities for healthy food choices.

For parents of children 1 to 2 years of age. 2 hour workshop. Parents come to gain knowledge, learn from other parents and share their experiences. This workshop explores the idea of behaviour as developmental cues from children. Throughout this interactive workshop, you will be linking developmental aspects and research which will enable you to understand and guide your child/ren’s learning in your unique family situation.

For parents of children antenatal, newborn to 12 weeks of age. 2 hour workshop. Parents come to gain knowledge, learn from other parents and share their experiences during this challenging time while adapting to your baby. You and your baby have learnt a lot about each other and their environment since conception. This process is constant as your baby learns about the world through the senses. This workshop explores normal brain development in relation to verbal and non-verbal cues, sleep, wakefulness and feeding patterns. Smart Steps is part of the Road Aware program which aims to inform parents of young children about the aspects of passenger, pedestrian and play safety in their community. We cover the latest car restraint information, fun ways to engage children with road safety messages and how to make play environments safe for your children.
 image Managing a Baby and a Toddler
For parents of children up to 4 years of age. 2 hour workshop. Parents come to gain knowledge, learn from other parents and share their experiences. This workshop explores the transition of the addition of another child to the existing family structure. The first part of the workshop explores why parents and siblings struggle developmentally at this time to accommodate a new arrival. During the second part of the workshop you will discuss and develop some practical strategies to move forward.
