Ngala were thrilled to invite guests to an official opening ceremony of Ngala’s Early Learning and Development Service at Perth Airport on Tuesday October 5th. This service has been some 12 months in development and forms part of Ngala’s future directions in early education and care and commenced business on 30th August 2010. Minister for Child Protection, Community Services, Seniors, Volunteering and Women’s Interests, The Honourable Robyn McSweeney MLC officiated the Grand Opening, which was also attended by Dr Karin McAuthur, Executive Director, Community Engagement, Department for Communities, General Manager, Westralia Airports Corporation, Dr Peter Cock, Mr Russell Hawkins, Ngala's Board Chairman, The Honourable Barbara Scott, President of the Friends of Ngala,  Ngala Board members, CEO, and staff as well as various other stakeholders and families.

For Ngala, the opening of this service at Perth Airport is an important extension of our work in early education and an important extension of the organisation’s services for families with young children.

Ngala has a strong commitment to quality early childhood service delivery having 40 years experience in the provision of long day care service and 120 years of service to children, parents, community and professionals. "We are dedicated to supporting children in their learning for life and to our programs and services applying current research and knowledge. Evidence-based practice forms the foundation of all Ngala’s programs and services and Ngala’s Child Initiated Approach (CIA) that forms the basis of practice at our Early Learning and Development Service at Perth Airport is strongly evidence based," Ngala's CEO Rae Walter said at the Official Opening ceremony.

The Australian Government has committed to a broad reform agenda for early childhood education and care which focuses on providing Australian families with high-quality, accessible and affordable integrated early childhood education and care referred to as the Early Years Learning Framework. Ngala’s Early Learning and Development Service was chosen as one of the 29 sites nationally to pilot the Framework.

"Ngala has recognised the need for working families to be able to easily access quality child care and I am pleased parents now have the option of accessing care at what is a unique and dynamic business location," Minister McSweeney said.

The Board of Directors were very keen to partner with Westralia Airports Corporation in this Early Learning and Development Service and thanked them for their commitment to the provision of quality child care to the local community and for their support during the months in the lead up to the official Opening.

Minister McSweeney said, "The Westralia Airports Corporation has set a wonderful example of what can be done when the private sector steps in to support the community services sector," and went on to commend them for their involvement in the new service which would be of great benefit to the local working community.

Both Ngala's Board and Executive are very proud of the service developed at Perth Airport and commented that the service will quickly become one of the best facilities of its kind in Perth and a model exponent of contemporary early childhood practice.
