Play Your Part in Parenting
Posted on: Tue 1 March 2011
Recent studies in Australia suggest that grandparents and other family members are playing an increasingly active and significant role in the lives of young children.[1]
Family members albeit parent themselves often need a helping hand to extend confidence when caring for, and supporting the development of their children.
The team of early childhood experts at the Ngala centre in Merriwa are playing their part in educating and encouraging all care-givers by offering a haven for local parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends wishing to learn, share and discuss children and parenting.
Ngala is the leading ‘early parenting’ information source in WA for families with children from 0-6 and embraces all care-givers and the young children whom they care for at Parenting and Play Time (P &PT), formerly known as ‘Coffee Mornings’.
Denley Sampson and his team at The Good Guys Clarkson, are helping to meet the demand for Ngala’s P & PT through their Local Giving Program which allows customers to direct The Good Guys’ community support to charities such as Ngala.
“Parenting & Play Time is an intimate teaching and support service for all members of the family,” said Denley Sampson, Proprietor of The Good Guys Clarkson. “There are many members in our community who are benefitting from the relaxed environment, new friendships and invaluable education that Ngala offers,” he said.
“P & PT is Ngala’s ‘shopfront’ for the community,” said Rae Walter, CEO of Ngala. “The Good Guys Clarkson’s donation has greatly assisted families in the Merriwa, Quinns Rock, Mindarie and Clarkson areas,” she said.
The Ngala P & PT Service at the Merriwa centre runs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for two hour periods and any family members who are keen to learn more about child care, play and development are welcome with their children.
Next time you are at The Good Guys Clarkson, be sure to drop a heart shaped token in the Ngala token box and send funds toward Ngala’s worthwhile community work.
