Shelley Taylor-Smith to Champion Ngala
Posted on: Fri 10 June 2011
- President of the Friends of Ngala, the Hon. Barbara Scott, today will welcome 7 x Women’s World No.1 Marathon Swimming Champion, Shelley Taylor -Smith as guest speaker at the Friends of Ngala annual fundraising luncheon at Royal Perth Yacht Club at 12 noon. The capacity audience will also include former Wimbledon champion, Margaret Court AO MBE.
- Ngala supports over 40,000 families each year and is Western Australia’s leading not-for-profit provider of early parenting services for families with children between 0-6 years. The luncheon will raise much needed funds for Ngala, enabling the organisation to touch the lives of even more Western Australian families.
Shelley Taylor-Smith said “When there was no government funding or sponsorship available, I know that my world records and world titles in marathon swimming were achieved because of the unbelievable support from the people of Western Australia.”
“Supporting Ngala, West Australia’s oldest charity, is my opportunity to give back to my home state of WA. In my mind, any organisation that empowers parents to be the best parents they can be gets my 100% vote of confidence.”
A team of great supporters and the people of Western Australia gave Shelley Taylor-Smith the encouragement to achieve her sporting goals.
Ngala too acknowledges the importance of having a support team by providing and promoting a range of services and programs that help families develop resilience, life skills and their own resources to enjoy an independent and fulfilling family life.
Shelley Taylor Smith has kindly offered to donate part proceeds of the sales of her biography “Dangerous When Wet – The Shelley Taylor-Smith Story” to Ngala.
