Thank you Rae Walter image

In November 2011, it will be 23 years since Rae Walter joined Ngala as CEO leading Ngala to become Western Australia’s premier early parenting community service organisation.

Ngala's Board of Directors, Executive Management Team and staff would like to extend their sincere thanks to Rae for her hard work and commitment to the organisation and for her impact in making a positive difference to the families of Western Australia with young children.

Since 1988, Rae has had significant impact with community, family and children’s issues through community involvement and committee representation across the education, health and welfare sectors. Some of these representations have included being a member of the Community Services Sector Child Protection Roundtable, the Deputy Chair of Human Services Industry Roundtable and a member of the Early Childhood Education Steering Committee.  Rae has also participated in the management of community organisations including being appointed President of WACOSS, President of the Australian Association of Parenting and Child Health, Foster Care Association (Committee member and Treasurer 1990-93) and Noah’s Ark Toy Library for Children with Special Needs (Committee member and President 1983-86).

Under Rae’s leadership, Ngala has grown significantly and is now in contact with 40,000 Western Australian families including at least 40% of first time families. She has also overseen significant diversity in Ngala's range of services and locations.

Ngala's revenue base has increased almost threefold from $4million to over $11million - a reflection of the organisation's diversity and financial sustainability. Similarly, staffing in terms of both numbers and in the range of expertise has also increased significantly.  These aspects are a reflection of the organisation’s ability to change, to continue to meet community needs and to work with evidence bases that underpin Ngala’s services.

Rae is leaving a significant legacy, with new initiatives underway or on the horizon - online services, the research agenda, development of Ngala's Early Learning and Development Services, the Ngala Institute of Education and Learning, Midland C4C Plus and parenting services for Aboriginal and CALD families and communities.

Together with Ngala's current services and initiatives such as the Alexandra Village, Ngala is well positioned for meeting changing community needs as the organisation moves into the future.
