His Excellency Mr Malcolm McCusker, AO, QC, Governor of WA and his wife Mrs. Tonya McCusker and their daughter Mary will be visiting Ngala next Friday morning 26th August at 9 .30 am.

On the 1st July 2011 Malcolm McCusker, AO, QC, became the 31st Governor of Western Australia at a swearing-in-ceremony held in the Ballroom of Government House. Mrs Tonya McCusker works closely with more than 100 community and charitable organisations and has recently accepted Ngala’s invitation to become Patron of the organisation.

Ngala is the oldest registered charity in Western Australia and has serviced the children and families across the state for over 120 years. Ngala supports over 40,000 families each year through its holistic service approach.  It is Western Australia’s leading not-for-profit provider of early parenting services for families with children between 0-6 years.

Ngala's CEO Mrs Rae Walter will host this visit along with senior staff, a representative from the Board of Directors, Friends of Ngala Vice President Mrs Jill Curnow  and members of the Friends of Ngala Executive Committee. Mrs Walter pointed out that “The Friends of Ngala and the Board work as volunteers to raise funds and support Ngala’s work providing and promoting a range of services and programs that help families develop resilience and life skills to enjoy an independent and fulfilling family life.

The support of the Governor, and Mrs McCusker as Patron of Ngala is extremely important for the organisation to support our fundraising efforts and to help raise the profile of the essential work that we undertake. As a busy mother herself, we are sure that Mrs McCusker will empathise with the many challenges that parents face today.  We very much welcome her as our patron  and look forward to working with her in the future”.

Said Mrs McCusker

“Having children of our own, the Governor and I are fully aware of the challenges facing parents when their little blessing arrives.  I have spent many a sleepless night walking back and forth trying to get a little one to sleep.  I have also heard many friends refer to the advice and support offered to them by Ngala as invaluable.  Having called Ngala for advice on two occasions, when our second son James refused to sleep, I can confirm that the service Ngala provides is outstanding.

I am delighted to accept patronage and to support an organisation that provides critical support to families with young children”.

This visit will commence with a brief morning tea, followed by a tour of Ngala around the building at 10:00 am. The tour will be a brief introduction to services provided from the Kensington site. It will also be an opportunity for the Governor’s party to see firsthand how the helpline operates.
