HIPPY Midland is now seeking enrolments for this year, as well as an opportunity for employment as a HIPPY Home Tutor!

HIPPY is a free two year program which aims to support families to develop a home environment that encourages the development of a love of learning. HIPPY gives parents and careers valuable, one-on-one time with their child and is designed to fit easily into daily life. Home Tutors support families to provide children with structured, education-focused activities that lay the foundation for success at school. Home Tutors will also support families in their own home to use the HIPPY materials provided in packs delivered weekly and fortnightly. These packs of books, stationary and learning activities are delivered in line with the four school terms.

Families also have the opportunity to build connections in their local community and meet other local parents through fortnightly parent group meetings and excursions and events throughout the year.

The HIPPY approach is based on evidence that children’s earliest and most powerful learning comes from their family. This evidence shows that encouraging literacy and numeracy in early childhood sets children up for success in learning throughout their lives. HIPPY is delivered in 100 communities across Australia. The Brotherhood of St Laurence holds the licence to operate HIPPY in Australia and the program is fully funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Social Services.

We also have the exciting opportunity for one of these parents to become a HIPPY Home Tutor. Tutors receive weekly training with the Coordinator about early childhood education and the theory behind it. They also have the opportunity to train or pursue further study such as accredited training or workplace-focused corporate training.

To be eligible to enrol in HIPPY Midland, families must be

  • Living in Midland, Midvale, Koongamia, Middle Swan, Swan View, Woodbridge, Stratton or Bellevue and
  • Caring for a child whose birth date is between July 2015 to June 2016.
