It’s never too early to ensure your little one is building solid emotional foundations to set themselves up for a healthier, happier life.
Little Minds Matter is a free day program for families with infants (0-12 months) to give them all the tools they need to raise emotionally healthy children. Each participant will participate in group sessions, and have a one-on-one assessment with a psychologist on their child’s emotional wellbeing.
What do I get?
The day starts with group sessions, delivered by a Psychologist and a Child Health Nurse who specialises in mental health. They will cover:
- The importance of baby social and emotional development – and your role in developing this in a healthy way
- The caregiver/baby relationship and how to foster this from day one
- How to encourage baby-led play to foster positive mental health
- The importance of caregiver self-care
Each participant will also take part in a one-on-one consultation with our Psychologist on:
- Your mental health and stress
- Your baby’s social and emotional development
The goal of this consultation is to identify potential mental health, social or emotional development challenges early and create a customised care plan to address them.
What do I leave with?
Participants will leave with a customised Family Care Plan developed in partnership with your family, complete with recommendations and referral pathways to any services and/or programs as required. All participants will also receive a follow up with a Ngala professional after completion to check in and see how they are progressing.
Who should apply?
This program is available to all parents, regardless of if you have any concerns about the social or emotional development of your baby. These early months and years are so important in setting the foundations for positive mental health that we encourage all parents to apply, no matter how they feel their baby is developing.
Of course, we strongly encourage anyone who does have concerns to apply. The signs of social and emotional development challenges in infants can be affected by all kinds of factors, including sleeping, feeding and eating, attention, and emotional expression so, while not all of the below are indications there are issues, some important potential risk factors that may require investigation include:
