Ngala coordinates the delivery of MyTime groups across Western Australia for parents and carers of children who live with a disability, developmental delay or chronic medical condition.

MyTime groups provide a special space for parents and carers of children under the age of 18 who need a higher level of care than other children. This might be because of disability, chronic medical condition, or other additional needs including developmental delay.

MyTime provides all the benefits of peer support, but with the addition of a skilled facilitator, who ensures groups run smoothly, that they accommodate a variety of experiences and communication styles, accommodate members at different stages of adjustment to a diagnosis, and adapt to new members joining the group.

Groups aim to:

  • empower parents
  • increase their general wellbeing
  • increase their confidence and success in their parenting role
  • help children and young people to thrive

Ngala is the Coalition Coordinator for MyTime in Western Australia, subcontracting local organisations to deliver 22 groups across the state. Developed by The Parenting Research Centre, the MyTime program was established in 2007 and is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
